Storytelling

The Portal - oil on canvas original by Ben Molyneux
THE DRYMAN
For many years I wrote stories that explored history, mythology, time travel and the unseen connections that seem to bind lives together.
Then life gave me a story far stranger than anything I could have imagined.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic and a period of profound personal transformation, I found myself revisiting the novels I had written years earlier. As I rebuilt my life, I became fascinated by the unexpected parallels between those fictional worlds and my own experiences. That journey became the foundation for The Dryman.
The Dryman is an original prestige television drama that weaves together historical adventure, romance, mystery and contemporary drama. It follows two teenage time travellers in seventeenth-century England alongside a modern writer whose life begins to echo the stories he once created.
At its heart, it is a story about transformation: how we rebuild after loss, how imagination shapes our lives, and how the stories we create sometimes change the people creating them.
Like my paintings and photography, The Dryman explores perspective, symbolism, nature and the spaces between the visible and invisible worlds.
The complete ten-part series has been written, together with a full pitch package, and I am currently seeking conversations with producers, directors, literary agents and production companies interested in developing the project.
If the themes of The Dryman resonate with you, I’d be delighted to hear from you.
