Journey Through the Valley
With a background as a novelist, I’ve always been drawn to storytelling through my art. Now, with a growing collection of paintings, I’m beginning to bring these worlds together, creating a journey through interconnected places, characters and stories.
The journey is still unfolding, but then, is any journey ever truly complete?
Each artwork is available to purchase as a limited edition print, and some originals may still be available.
Enjoy your journey through the valley.
The Alchemist
The mysterious composer had gathered an extraordinary audience. People and animals from near and far had come together, drawn by the promise of something magical.
For centuries, the natural world and humankind had grown apart, forgetting the harmony that once existed between them.
The composer believed that music held the power to reunite them. As he raised his baton, an enchanting melody filled the night air, weaving its way through every living soul.
For a moment, their differences disappeared. They were no longer separate, but part of something greater.
And for one lion in the audience, the music awakened something unexpected. A quiet calling that would change the course of his life.

The Explorer
As the music filled the room, something stirred deep within the lion. He began to reflect upon his life and the world beyond the familiar.
Inspired by the music, he decided to follow his intuition and embark on a journey of self-discovery, to broaden his horizons, embrace new experiences and allow the universe to speak to him.
He'd been ignoring the signs and his inner voice far too long. Everyday had seemed an endless loop, it was time to explore. After all, aren't Lion's supposed to roam.
With a map before him and an open mind, his adventure was about to begin.

The Crow's Valley
From his perch overlooking the valley, the crow watched the changing light dance across the hills.
He too had attended the Alchemist’s concert and felt the magic of the music stirring within him. Something extraordinary had been set in motion, and its influence was beginning to spread across the land.
He had watched the lion studying his maps, preparing for a journey into the unknown. The crow sensed that his own role was different.
With wings to carry him across mountains, rivers and forests, he could travel where others could not, observing the lives and adventures unfolding below.
Perhaps his purpose was to become the storyteller of the valley, gathering tales from far and wide and carrying them between the many creatures who called this world their home.
With that thought, he spread his wings and took flight.

The Alchemist's Garden

Some say the magic began in the Alchemist’s garden.
For years, he had been experimenting with the most extraordinary combinations of animals, plants and objects, convinced that everything in the universe was connected.
The peacock believed his experiments were about finding balance and harmony between all living things.
The peahen disagreed. She was certain the secret lay in duality, that opposites needed one another to create something greater.
The orangutan had his own ideas. He had watched the natural world changing and feared that humanity had forgotten its place within it.
Whatever the truth, he insisted that never had the Alchemist’s work been more urgent.
And so the experiments continued, as the Alchemist searched for the magic that might bring the world back into harmony.

A Mouse's Tale

It was, of course, the blackbirds who had helped the Alchemist with his research. For months, they had been poring over ancient books, searching for forgotten wisdom and selecting passages on alchemy for him to experiment with.
For the Alchemist’s ambitions extended far beyond turning ordinary objects into gold. He hoped to discover something far more precious, a way to restore harmony between all living things.
The little mouse, meanwhile, had appointed himself keeper of the library. It was no small responsibility. The blackbirds were brilliant researchers, but their enthusiasm for knowledge had left books piled in every corner.
The mouse often wondered how creatures so clever could be quite so untidy.
Still, he took great pride in his work. After all, even the greatest magic in the world would be of little use if nobody could find the right book.

Cafe Culture

Meanwhile, at The Hungry Bedouin, the bear was sharing his extraordinary experience of the Alchemist’s concert with his friend George.
As they enjoyed a delicious slice of cake, the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air. The bear spoke excitedly of the music, the magic and his growing desire to explore the world beyond the familiar.
“Let me come with you!” exclaimed George. “I’ve always loved travelling, and surely you’ll need a little company on your journey through the valley.”
The bear smiled. Perhaps an adventure shared would be twice as wonderful.
Outside, Jasper the poodle had his own ambitions. The cake looked far too delicious to miss, and he was determined to get his paws on a slice.
There was just one small problem. Someone needed to open the door.

The Long and Winding Road

“Do you think we’ll find good cake along the way?” asked George.
“I sincerely hope so,” replied the bear. “Perhaps even better than The Hungry Bedouin’s.”
“That’s a sore subject. The dog ate most of mine, remember!” George protested.
The bear chuckled as they continued along the winding road, the valley stretching out before them.
“So, where are we actually going?” asked George.
“We’ll know when we get there,” replied the bear with a smile.
George looked at his friend, then at the endless hills ahead.
He had a feeling this was going to be quite an adventure.

Into the Valley

As they reached the valley floor, the sun began to set behind the distant hills, casting a golden glow across the landscape.
The comforting smell of freshly baked scones drifted towards them from a little farmhouse beside the river.
“I wonder if they’d welcome two adventure-seeking travellers knocking on their door?” said the bear hopefully.
“Well, there’s only one way to find out,” replied George.
And with that, they made their way towards the farmhouse, wondering who they might meet and what stories awaited them inside.

Jasper had overheard a conversation at The Hungry Bedouin about the Alchemist setting off a magical chain reaction that would change the world forever.
Quite what this meant, Jasper wasn’t sure, but he assumed everything was about to change.
As he wandered through the streets, he came across a man painting an enormous wall. To Jasper’s astonishment, the man was covering the face of a beautiful woman with bright red paint.
“Good heavens!” thought Jasper. “Perhaps this is what the Alchemist’s magic is doing. Everything is turning red!”
He looked around nervously. The other buildings were unchanged, the pavement was still grey, and thankfully, his own fur was still cream.
For now, at least.
The Unexpected Visitors

After a long discussion, the blackbirds had decided that the Alchemist’s research was missing something important. Ancient books could reveal the secrets of the universe, but perhaps the answers they sought could also be found in the lives of ordinary people.
They had heard that Miranda Oswald possessed an extraordinary collection of stories, and decided it was time to pay her a visit.
They knocked on the door and waited apprehensively.
From her upstairs window, Miranda had spotted the two blackbirds trying to attract her attention.
Had they come to speak with her, she wondered, or were they simply collecting old books again for that eccentric old man who lived over the hill?
She sighed, there was something unusually determined about the little visitors today.
Perhaps she ought to hear what they had to say.

Lovers Cottage

George and the bear followed their noses to Lovers’ Cottage, where they were greeted by two black cats lounging in the garden.
“What’s that?” asked George, pointing towards a curious egg-shaped stone ornament among the flowers.
One of the cats yawned and stretched lazily.
“We don’t actually know. It was here long before any of us.”
The other cat scratched behind its ear and regarded the bear with curiosity.
“We haven’t seen a bear in these parts since the great forest was cut down.”
The bear sighed. “Ah, those were different times. It’s good to meet you, my feline friends.”
Then his nose began to twitch.
“Now, is that freshly baked scones I can smell?”
