The Egret of Lake Buttermere
In ancient Celtic folklore, the egret symbolised harmony and peace. However, finding harmony and peace in modern times can be a monumental challenge. We are constantly pulled in different directions by various demands for our attention. Our minds are awash with an array of tasks we need to accomplish, along with our fears, challenges, and those of our nearest and dearest. Additionally, we live in an era of unrelenting, rapid change, and simply keeping up with it feels like a full-time occupation. The world is increasingly interconnected, with 24-hour news coverage keeping all of its tragic events ever-present in our minds. It is no wonder that our mental health is under such strain.
This artwork depicts one of Britain's most magnificent lakes, Lake Buttermere, located in the Lake District, alongside the flight of a solitary egret. The message is a simple yet profound one: to cultivate harmony and peace within oneself, take a step towards nature. Make time to be alone, away from distractions, in a tranquil setting. Relax, clear your mind, and connect with the natural world. You may feel as though you have a mountain to climb, but remember to take it one step at a time, allowing yourself all the time and space you need.
