West Oxfordshire on a warm, sunny day. I find my mind flooded with reminiscences of swimming in the river, my fingers entwined with those of my first love, as we strolled along the riverbank, laughter dancing in the air. Sipping drinks in the pub garden on a balmy summer evening with good friends, we would bask in the soft glow of twilight, surrounded by the gentle ebb and flow of the Thames.
Picnics by the riverbanks were a delight; I can still picture butterflies flitting effortlessly in the breeze, while cows grazed lazily at the water’s edge. Majestic swans glided past, forever hopeful for a morsel of leftover bread. Then, with a flash of brilliance, a kingfisher darts across the river, so swift and agile that I barely catch a glimpse of her vibrant colours.
Nearby, dragonflies dance in an iridescent display, their delicate bodies flitting about as they mate upon a sunlit leaf. A narrowboat navigates gracefully through the waters, its joyful captain at the helm, a scene that perfectly captures the essence of tranquillity.
These peaceful, delightful scenes inspire my mind and illuminate my soul, each moment a gentle reminder of the beauty that surrounds us—a melody and a longing to return home.
