Once upon a time in Bury St Edmunds

Chapter two

Serendipity Street

Serendipity Street isn't just a place—it's a moment that decided to linger.

Imagine turning a corner you never planned to take, and suddenly the world arranges itself like it had been waiting for you all along. That's the quiet magic this street holds. A peacock has claimed the roof ridge as his throne. Children chase laughter down the cobbles while a photographer captures the band. A rook balances on stones with a daisy in his beak as a magpie watches in amusement.

Every window tells its own small secret, a couple caught kissing, a woman reading in soft lamplight. And there, first house, first floor, first window from the left, someone familiar is looking straight out at you. That's me, watching the street I've been painting piece by piece.

Serendipity Street is where characters I've loved across dozens of canvases finally meet. The guitarist away from his computer, the woman from her daydream, now looking out the window watching the band. The peacock from the Alchemist's Garden.

This artwork mixes oil painting, with illustration and photography.

This is the beauty of serendipity: unexpected collisions that feel inevitable once they happen. A street that shouldn't exist, yet here it is, alive and breathing, inviting you to step inside the frame.
